Lions punch ticket to State Tournament
Chad Nunnally's mammoth two-run homer in the fifth inning took the wind out of Salem's sails and sparked the Lions to a convincing 10-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Cave City. The win earned Manila a berth in the Class 3A State Tournament this week in Searcy.
Nunnally finished the day 3-4 at the plate, adding a double and a single to go along with his 400 plus foot shot over the centerfield fence.
The senior right hander also picked up the victory on the mound, going the distance, allowing only two earned runs while giving up four hits. Nunnally struck out six while walking just two.
The Lions scored single runs in the first three innings and added three more in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead before Nunally's two-run shot in Manila's three run fifth inning put the game away.
Hunter Bryan also went 4-4 at the plate for Manila with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Senior Ross Malloy went 2-3 with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored while Luke McLaughlin also went 2-3 with a double and a run scored.
Manila improves to 15-7 on the season.
