Manila Mayor Clifford Veach and city council members worked through a short agenda at the regular March meeting discussing the possibility of a horse arena for area youth.
Councilman Donnie Wagner presented a proposed project for a horse arena.
"I think Linda (Councilwoman Linda Donovan) and I are the only horse people but this could involve 30 or 40 kids," Wagner said.
He went on to say it would be suitable for rodeos and horse shows. Wagner said if the city was interested in the idea he would come with a complete proposal with a cost estimate.
"If it is something for our youth, I am for it," Councilman Larry "Whiz" Davis said.
Councilman Dwight Booth said he thought it was worth moving forward with.
Councilman Donovan said she would like to see the 4-H become active in Manila.
Veach said he would come up with a plat for the property by the next meeting to see exactly how much space is available.
The council reviewed the budget and approved the minutes of the last meeting.
Mayor Veach reported the new fire station building has been ordered and work should begin on the foundation soon.
The city officials received work Manila did not receive funds from the Arkansas Heritage Grant program.
"The letter said our project was good but they had too many applications for the funds available," Mayor Veach said.
The council voted unanimously to purchase advertising for the 2008 Buffalo Island American Cancer Relay for Life for $250.
