Three arrested in Leachville

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Leachville Chief of Police Keith Evans confirmed three Leachville residents, Ronnie Dempsy, 22, Jerry Thacker, 22, and Josh Shepard, 21, were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture.

Evans said the officer on duty responded to a call at 12:20 a.m. March 6 about a fire in the back yard at 317 Lange Street.

Evans said it was a small fire and consistent with burn-off from a meth lab. When officers knocked on the door, suspects started running.

Two of the suspects, Dempsy and Thacker, were taken into custody and transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office. The third suspect fled.

Leachville Police Department, Mississippi County Sheriff's Deputies and the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force worked together in the arrests.

The house was placed under surveillance until a search warrant could be issued.

Josh Shepard, who resides at the house, turned himself in at 8 a.m. and cooperated with members of the drug task force giving up the components for a meth lab. Shepard was on probation.

Evans said the three appeared for a bond hearing with Judge Shannon Langston presiding. Bonds were set at $100,000 each for Dempsy and Thacker and $250,000 for Shepard.
