Black Oak group quilts for animals

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Spreading the word of God and finding homes for orphan cats and dogs are very different worthwhile endeavors. Recently, two Northeast Arkansas Organizations have collaborated to fund both.

The Black Oak Assembly of God Ladies Quilting Group spends the winter months making and selling handmade quilts to raise money for church tithing and contributing to the Gideons. This year the ladies made five queen size and five king size quilts for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society (NEAHS).

The NEAHS has scheduled a fund raising event on Sunday, April 13, from 1:30-5 p.m. at the Jonesboro Sun Art Gallery located at 518 Carson Street in Jonesboro. The society is planning to include the quilts in a drawing for each one during the event. Donations of one dollar each will be accepted for chances to win each quilt. Donors do not have to be present to win.

Event planners are also working with area art instructors for student art to sell that day. Donations can be made by calling the shelter at 932-5185.
