Shepard scores 3000th career point in victory over Weiner

Jessica Shepard scored 27 points, including the 3000th of her career, to lead Buffalo Island Central to a 70-53 non-conference victory over the Lady Cardinals Monday night, Feb. 4, at Weiner.
Shepard drilled a free throw midway through the second quarter to surpass the coveted 3000 point plateau. Sammi Fowler scored 14 points while Jordon Miller added 12 more. Lauryn Smith scored eight, Chelsie Nix netted five, while Corie Flannigan and Shelby Qualls added two apiece.
Weiner placed three players in double figures, led by Madison Craft who scored 21 points. Lexi Johnson tallied 13 while Monica Sitzer added 10 more for the Lady Cardinals.
BIC led 25-12 after the opening period and stretched their advantage to 44-26 at the half. The Lady Mustangs took a 60-39 lead into the final frame.
BIC will enter the 2A-3 District Tournament as the host team and the number one seed. The Lady Mustangs will open tournament play Thursday night at 6:00 against a yet unnamed opponent.
