Earle showed why they are the 2A-3 conference leaders Friday night at the

Mustang Athletic Complex, rolling to a 33-9 first period lead en route to a 74-58

victory over Buffalo Island Central.

Earle grabbed a 7-0 lead to begin the game before BIC finally got on the board

with a 10-foot jumper by junior Tab Wildy. Earle scored the game's next six

points, capped off by a steal and lay-up by Bulldog Donald Ward, giving Earle a

13-2 lead at the 4:40 mark of the opening stanza.

BIC's Trevor Matheny connected on a conventional three point play with 4:20

left, but Earle's Steven Meredith matched Matheny's three point effort with one

of his own to push the Bulldog lead back to 11. Earle closed the quarter

outscoring the Mustangs 14-4 to take a 24 point lead into the second period.

BIC tried to fight back in the second period, but the Bulldogs closed the half

with a 44-27 lead, despite back to back three pointers from Mustang senior guard

Jordan Griggs.

BIC played without Head Coach Dion Hargrove, who was absent due to the sudden

death of his brother.

The Bulldogs placed all five starters in double figures, led by Ward's 18

points. Meredith scored 15 points while Trey Smith netted 14. Corbin McKenzie

tallied 13 points and Michael Wilson added 10. The Bulldogs were 19-31 from the

foul line and finished with one trey.

times, connecting on six. Griggs paced the Mustangs with 17 points while Matheny

added 15 more. Wildy netted eight, Shane Barnes scored seven, Lee Birdno tallied

four while Matt Taylor added three. Matt Honnoll and Heath Hawkins contributed

two points apiece.
