Justin Duke scored 22 points to lead Rector to a 72-61 victory over Buffalo Island Central, spoiling the Mustang's homecoming Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex. The Cougars also got double figures from Derek Wyss and Jackie Graham who pitched in 15 and 13 points respectively, as Rector improved to 8-6 in 2A-3 conference action.
The two teams battled to a 13-13 tie after the first period before Rector took a 32-27 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Cougars pushed their advantage to 50-38 entering the final frame. Rector finished the night 16-27 from the foul line and drilled six three pointers.
Matt Honnoll paced three Mustangs in double figures with a team high 19 points. Jordan Griggs scored 14 while Matt Taylor added 11. Shane Barnes scored nine points, Trevor Matheny netted six while Tab Wildy added two to round out the Mustang attack. BIC finished 11-14 from the foul line.
The Mustangs began the week with a 65-48 victory over Weiner Thursday night at Monette. Jordan Griggs drained six three pointers on his way to a team high 20 points to lead BIC offensively. Matt Honnoll also hit double digits, scoring 12 points. BIC, who finished 2-2 from the free throw line, drilled 11 treys on the night. The Mustangs got eight points from Shane Barnes, while Brandon Atkeison tallied six. Trevor Matheny, Lee Birdno and Adrian Mondragon all scored five points apiece while Tab Wildy and Dalton Womack added two points each.
Noah Sitzer led Weiner with 16 points while Dalton Kelley added 11.
In junior high action, BIC swept a pair of games, defeating Weiner 60-43 before downing Rector 44-32.
Dillon Hargrove poured in a game high 19 points to lead the Mustangs in their win over Weiner. Mark Stone also hit double digits with 11 points while James Tate, Jeremy Smith and Ben Cole all added eight points apiece. Taylor Morgan rounded out the BIC attack with six points.
Weiner was led by Dalton McIllwain who scored 18 points while Kylan Evins added 13 more.

The Mustangs held a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and led 24-16 at the half. BIC took a 34-27 lead into the final period.
Tyler Kirkland and Cody Hager led Rector with 13 and 12 points respectively.
BIC will return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Turrell to take on the Rockets. The Mustangs will return home Friday night when they host Earle in another 2A-3 conference tilt.
