Lady Rebels hand BIC first Conference loss, 46-41

Riverside outscored Buffalo Island Central 16-1 in the fourth period to pull out a come from behind 46-41 2A-3 conference victory Monday night at Caraway.

Riverside held a 10-9 lead after the opening quarter before BIC rallied to take a 21-18 lead at the half. The Lady Mustangs took a 31-30 edge into the final frame before watching the Lady Rebels rally for the win, handing BIC their first conference loss of the season.

Brianna Driver led Riverside with 18 points and eight boards while Katey Campbell and Morgan Emery scored 13 and 10 points respectively. Kassie Douglas had three points while Holly Dudley chipped in two to round out the Lady Rebel attack.

BIC was led by Jessica Shepard, who scored 14 points. Chelsie Nix and Lauryn Smith tallied eight points apiece while Jordan Miller netted six and Sammi Fowler added five.

Riverside made it a clean sweep, winning the junior high game 36-29 behind seventh grader Lauren Weaver's game high 25 points. Weaver connected on 14-22 from the free throw line while Riverside finished 16-26 as a team.

Taylor Boness had five points, Kendra Staggs scored three, Allysia Thibodeaux tallied two while Kyley Campbell chipped in one for the Lady Rebels.

Brittany Fowler led BIC with 15 points while Amber Rolland had nine and Taylor Owens added five.

BIC held an 11-5 lead after the first quarter and led 20-13 at the half. Riverside rallied in the third period to tie the score 22-22 before outscoring BIC 14-7 in the final period to claim the win.

BIC hosted Greene County Tech Thursday night and pulled out a thrilling 68-65 overtime victory to improve their record to 21-5 on the season.

Sammi Fowler drilled a three pointer with eight seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, where BIC outscored the Lady Eagles 6-3 to pick up the win.

Fowler finished the night with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead BIC, while Jessica Shepard added 19 more. Jordan Miller also hit double digits for the Lady Mustangs, scoring 12 points.

Tech was led by Miranda Lamb who scored 14 points, including four three pointers. Amy Fletcher also scored 14 for the Lady Eagles while Elisa Diggs added 13 more.

BIC will return to action Monday night when they post host to Cross County before traveling to Marked Tree Friday night to take on the Lady Indians.

Riverside traveled to Rector Thursday night and dropped a 60-31 decision to the Lady Cougars.

Riverside won the junior high contest 31-26.

Riverside will return to action Monday night when they host Crowley's Ridge Academy at Lake City before traveling to Turrell for another 2A-3 conference game Friday night against the Lady Rockets.
