Matt Herren, owner of Sporties Pizza & Grill in Manila, said the his new restaurant offers a family environment.
Sporties is located at 110 Olympia Street (in the old Post Office building). Herren purchased the business from his mother-in-law, Marie Taggart.
The new restaurant opened on Saturday, Jan. 5.
"We had a phenomenal first week," Herren said. "I appreciate everyone for coming by."
Several gift certificates and a grand prize, an X-Box 260, were given away during the grand opening day.
"We plan to have more promotions throughout the year," Herren said.
The new business will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Deliveries will be available after 4 p.m.
Herren said he will be offering a variety of pizzas as well as grilled items, salads, appetizers, children's menu, dinners, desserts, and more.
Herren has two big screen televisions. Usually one will be on a family movie channel with the other one on the sports' channel. Sports decorations were added throughout the restaurant.
"We want a great place for people to come and bring their children and have an enjoyable meal," he said.
The restaurant business is a new venture for Herren who has worked in real estate. He was raised in Manila and returned 1-1/2 years ago. His wife, Heather, is a school teacher in Blytheville at the Charter School. They have one son, Trevor, 6, who attends school at Manila elementary.
Herren said Sporties motto is, "Our customers are always the MVP."
"Whatever our customers want, we will try our best to offer it," Herren said. "I am looking forward to serving the community."
