Marked Tree

William Carlton Steen, 78, of Marked Tree, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at his home. He was born May 31, 1929, in Corinth, Miss., the son of William Clay Steen and Birdie Mae Jones. He was a painter and a member of the Apostolic Church of Tyronza.

He is survived by his wife, Effie Mae Steen of Marked Tree; daughters, Judy Smullin of Tyronza, Anita Steen of West Memphis, Brenda Steen of Kennewich, Wash., Carla Wasiw of West Memphis; four stepdaughters, Gwendolyn Brown of Blytheville, Barbara Goforth of Jonesboro, Donna Sue Vick of Alabama, and Karen Rogers of Lepanto; two stepsons, Harold Wood of Marked Tree and Douglas Wood of Manila; brothers, Hayse Steen of Sheffield, Ala., Wayne Steen and Kenneth Steen, both of Marked Tree; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Payton, two sisters and three brothers.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Tyronza with Brother James Raines and Brother Lynn Vinson officiating. Burial was in Tyronza Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
