Lake City Council approves raises

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

Town Crier News Staff

Lake City councilmen met twice in December to review the previous 2007 budget and approve the 2008 proposed budget.

On Dec. 6 aldermen met to pass two ordinances and approve raises.

The third and final reading of Ordinance No. 227-07 was read and approved by the council. The ordinance regulates the use of metal storage containers in the city and provides for a penalty for violation of the ordinance.

The council approved the third and final reading of Ordinance 226-07. This ordinance supports the adoption of the Arkansas Diamond Deferred Compensations Plan for the city.

Aldermen voted 5-1 to increase the salaries of Mayor Billy Anderson and City Clerk Linda Simpson by $1 per hour. Council member Kenneth Winford voted against the increase.

Council members voted to purchase a John Deere tractor on a three-year lease-to-own contract.

The 2008 proposed budget was adopted after making salary changes to reflect the raises of the mayor and city clerk.

A second council meeting was held on Dec. 10, at city hall to confirm 2008 budget and increase garbage rates.

The 2008 budget was again reviewed and approved and found to be in order. The budged reflected salary changes approved at the last meeting.

Councilmen suspended the rules and placed Ordinance 228-07 on all three readings. The ordinance amended the Budget Ordinance of 2007 and was approved unanimously.

With a vote of 4-2 the garbage pick-up rates were increased by $1 per month. Voting against the motion was Kenneth Winford and Mark Mann.

The annual Lake City Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 13.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at city hall.
