The Caraway City Council met in short session on Thursday evening,
Dec. 13, at city hall, passing ordinance 2007-3 and approving the 2008 budget, totaling $469,500.
A letter of resignation from Caraway Park Commissioner Jerry Stokes was read and accepted by the council. Michael Adams was appointed to fill the vacancy. Ronnie Hurst was reappointed to serve another five-year term as park commissioner.
Mayor Riley explained the benefits of applying for a $25,000 Arkansas Heritage Grant for use in renovating the fire department. The application is due in Little Rock on Jan. 14, 2008. If approval is received, the funding will be a full grant with no matching funds required from the city. Riley will be in charge of the grant application.
Riley read a letter from State Representative Ray Kidd congratulating the city for its recent Arkansas Volunteer Community Award.
Earlier this month local businessman Bill Hawkins donated the City of Caraway a lot on main street. Plans are to use the property for city beautification.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at city hall.
