A fourth quarter Manila rally fell just short as Buffalo Island Central held on to post a 54-51 win in the first round of the Gerald Jennings Tournament Monday night at Gosnell.
The Mustangs took a 39-26 lead into the fourth period but watched the Lions charge back, scoring 25 fourth quarter points before holding on for the win.
Jordan Griggs scored a game high 19 points to lead BIC while Shane Barnes added 15 more. Trevor Matheny netted nine, Matt Taylor scored six, Steven Greathouse chipped in four while Matt Honnoll added two.
BIC led 13-9 after the first quarter and 26-18 at the half.
Ross Malloy led Manila with 17 points while Trey McCormick pitched in 15 more. Blake Wheeler scored eight, Chad Nunnally netted seven, while Frankie Cowgill added four.
Manila will return to action Tuesday night when they host EPC in a 3A-3 conference game. The Lions will travel to Brookland Friday night for another conference tilt.
BIC will travel to Rector Tuesday night for a 2A-3 conference game before hosting Turrell in another league matchup Friday night at Monette.
