Buffalo Island Central improved to 12-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in league play with a pair of victories last week in senior girls basketball action. The Lady Mustangs started the week with a 68-43 2A-3 conference win over Crowley's Ridge Academy at Monette and followed up with a 72-29 thrashing of Cross County Friday night at Cherry Valley.

Senior forward Sammi Fowler poured in 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead BIC past CRA. Fowler's 19 second half points ignited BIC, who outscored the Lady Falcons 42-22 in the second half to break open a tight game.

Jessica Shepard scored 18 points while Lauryn Smith added 12 points and six rebounds to aid in the Mustang victory. Treka Freer led CRA with 16 points.

Shepard led BIC over Cross County, scoring 17 points while Fowler also hit double digits with 10. The Lady Mustangs stampeded the Lady Thunderbirds early, bolting to a 35-6 first quarter lead.

In junior high action, the Lady Mustangs also improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in league play, slipping past CRA 30-28 before crushing Cross County 54-18 behind Taylor Owen's 16 points.

In the Lady Mustang's victory over CRA, Demi Hargrove and Brittany Fowler led the way with 10 points apiece while Owens grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Lady Mustangs will return to action Monday night when they host Marked Tree before beginning play in the Wendy's Shootout at Paragould which runs Dec. 6-8.

In senior boys action, Buffalo Island Central dropped a 64-59 decision to CRA Tuesday night at Paragould, despite Trevor Matheny's 29 point performance. Matheny hit three treys in the game and was a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Shane Barnes added 14 points, including four three pointers for the Mustangs, who finished with eight treys on the night while going 9-14 from the free throw stripe. Matt Honnoll and Matt Taylor scored five points apiece while Tab Wildy and Brandon Atkeison chipped in two points each.

BIC held a 17-13 first period advantage but watched CRA scratch back to take a 34-31 lead at the half. The Falcons took a 44-41 lead into the fourth period and held on for the victory. Kade Dickerson paced CRA with 26 points, including a game high eight three pointers. Jackson McDaniel had 14 points while Jake Wallis chipped in 12 more for the Falcons, who finished with nine three pointers while going 15-19 from the charity stripe.

The Mustangs captured the junior high contest over CRA, taking a 42-29 decision. Josh McCormick drilled five three pointers on his way to a game high 15 points while Dillon Hargrove added 11 more to lead the Mustangs to the win. Ben Cole and Jeremy Smith had five points apiece, Taylor Morgan netted four, while James Tate chipped in two to round out the BIC attack. The Mustangs nailed nine three pointers on the night and went 7-10 from the foul line.

The senior Mustangs will return to action Monday night when they open play in the Gerald Jennings Tournament at Gosnell against Manila. The Junior Mustangs also play Monday night when they face East Poinsett County in the Gerald Jennings Tournament.
