Mildred Norene Gaskins of Lake City died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at her home at the age of 83. She was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Cross County, the daughter of Robert Hoots and Bessie Hodge Hoots. She married Chester Gaskins on Sept. 30, 1943, and they enjoyed 64 years together before his death on July 11, 2007. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God in Harrisburg. She loved sewing and quilting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Oneal Gaskins and Richard Gaskins; an infant daughter; and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by four sons, Charles Gaskins of Fisher, John Hoots of Michigan, James Gaskins of Lake City and George Hoots of Michigan; four daughters, Bobbye Bronkhorst of Michigan, Brenda Tomky of Lake City and Mollie Hoggard and Linda Hoezee, both of Michigan; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Church of God in Harrisburg with Rev. John Honeycutt and Rev. Dale Walton officiating. Interment was in Eight-Mile Cemetery at Beedeville under the direction of Weston Funeral Service of Harrisburg.
Pallbearers were John Hoots, Charles Hoots, Norman Hoots, Paul Hoots, Harold Hoots and Gene Lowry. Tom Hicks was honorary pallbearer.
