A one cent sales tax and bond issue both failed to pass in a special election in Manila on Tuesday, Nov. 13. It was a low turnout with 189 of the 1,537 registered voters going to the polls.
The one cent sales tax would have funded the construction of and maintenance of a swimming pool/aquatic center. The bond issue would have allowed funding for the work to begin immediately.
Unofficial results ended with 71 votes for the tax and 118 against. The bond issue failed with 74 votes for and 115 against.
"People have spoken and I am here to serve the people and we will move on," Manila Mayor Clifford Veach said. "We have other projects to work on."
