Senior Sammi Fowler poured in a game high 27 points while Jessica Shepard added 19 more to lead Buffalo Island Central to a nail-biting 61-59 victory Tuesday night at Forrest City.
Forrest City held an 18-12 first quarter lead before BIC rallied in the second period, outscoring Forrest City 17-6 to take a 29-24 lead into the dressing room at intermission. BIC increased their lead to 48-40 after three quarters, but Forrest City rallied before falling two points short in the final frame.
BIC got seven points from Lauryn Smith, four from Corie Flannigan and two points apiece from Chelsie Nix and Holly Dempsey. The Lady Mustangs won the game at the foul line, going 15-19, while Forrest City hit only 4-12.
Bookita Vaughen scored 23 points, including five three pointers, to lead Forrest City. Cassandra Jackson followed closely behind, scoring 22 more.
In junior high action, BIC outscored Forrest City 46-34. Seventh grader Brittany Fowler pumped in a game high 20 points to lead the Lady Mustang attack. BIC held a 14-4 first period advantage and pushed their lead to 30-12 by the half. The Lady Mustangs were up 25 points, 45-20, entering the final quarter.
Demi Hargrove scored nine points while Kalee James netted eight more for BIC. Amber Rolland tallied four, Taylor Owens had three while Jenna Pike added two for the Lady Mustangs, who hit 10-13 free throws.
M. Burks led Forrest City with 15 points.
BIC rolled past Sloan Hendrix Monday night with an easy 43-14 victory. Brittany Fowler paced the Lady Mustangs with 11 points. Demi Hargrove scored eight, Taylor Owens netted six, Jenny Walker had five, Jenna Pike tallied four, while Kalee James, Jacey Sneed, Cassidy Qualls, and Chasity Garrett added two points apiece. BIC went
9-11 from the foul line.
BIC led 11-7 after the first quarter, 23-10 at the half, and 36-17 after three periods.
Haley Slusser led Sloan Hendrix with five points. The Lady Greyhounds managed only a 3-13 performance from the foul line.
