Manila placed seventh in last week's 3-A State Golf Champions at the Big Sugar Golf Course at Pea Ridge led by three golfers finishing in the top 30 in singles play.
Michael Shedd shot a 95 while Chad Nunnally and Drew Warren fired 97's as the Lions posted a 289 team total. Trey McCormick also participated and came away with a round of 109 on the tough rolling hills in Northwest Arkansas.
"We really did a good job considering what a tough course we played on, said Manila Head Golf Coach John Deaton." It was a beautiful course but it was a very tough one to play and walk on. You are playing in the mountains and that was something we were not used to. But I was very proud of all of them. They made a good showing. Only 30 of the 70 golfers who participated finished with scores under 100 and we had three of those so we were really proud of that. We are looking forward to next year with three of our top players coming back."
