Riverside Lady Rebels came away with a pair of victories over Trumann and Walnut Ridge in last week's tennis action but suffered their first loss of the year against a strong Westside squad on Wednesday in Jonesboro.
Riverside began the week battling East Poinsett County to a 3-3 tie with the Lady Rebels sweeping all three singles matches before watching the Lady Warriors rally to complete a sweep of their own in doubles action.
Kailey Holt continued her strong play with a 7-5 decision over EPC's Candace Dorris at number one singles. Holly Dudley came away with a 6-3 victory over EPC's Hailey Shankle while Kyley Campbell completed the sweep with a 6-0 whitewash of EPC's Madison McCorkle.
EPC came back strong in doubles play, starting with Sabrina Benton and Stephanie Steakley's 6-2 win over Lady Rebels Katey Campbell and Morgan Emery. Kelli Saddler and Carla Kemp also pounded out a 6-2 win over the Lady Rebel pair of Sarah Douglas and Christy Ward. EPC evened things up for the day when the team of Shankle and Saddler outlasted Riverside's Holt and Emery, 6-4.
Trumann came to town Tuesday afternoon with just one player, Felisha Foster, who fell in two straight matches to Riverside's Kailey Holt and Morgan Emery, by identical 6-0 scores, giving the Lady Rebels a 2-0 team victory.
The Lady Rebels saw their unbeaten streak come to an end at Westside as the Lady Warriors came away with an 8-1 victory, led by a five match singles sweep. Riverside picked up their only win of the day at number four doubles when Kyley Campbell and Sarah Douglas teamed to defeat the Lady Warrior duo of Lindsey Tilton and Sarah Shackelford, 6-4.
In singles play, Taylor Britton defeated Riverside's Morgan Emery, 6-1. Jadyn West downed Katey Campbell, 6-2, while Emily Medlock beat Kailey Holt, 7-5. Paige Cook defeated Holly Dudley, 6-1, and Sarah Shackleford completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over Sarah Douglas.
In other doubles action, the defending 3A State Champion team of Taylor Britton and Jadyn West downed Riverside's Katey Campbell and Morgan Emery, 6-2, while Kelsie Dement and Mollie Arnold beat Kailey Holt and Christy Ward, 6-1. Sarah Shackleford and Cynthia Tidwell outlasted Holly Dudley and Kyley Campbell, 6-4.
Riverside finished the week with a 4-1 win over conference foe Walnut Ridge to improve their record to 5-1-2 on the season. The Lady Rebels swept singles play with Kailey Holt and Holly Dudley picking up wins at the numbers one and two spots. Holt edged Walnut Ridge's Olivia Hackworth, 6-4, while Dudley beat Staci Spargo, 6-2.
Katey Campbell and Morgan Emery defeated the Bobcat duo of Hackworth and Spargo, 6-2, in number one doubles action. Kyley Campbell paired with Christy Ward to shutout the Lady Bobcat tandem of Barker and Hoffman, 6-0. Walnut Ridge came away with their lone victory of the day when Barker and Hoffman came up with a 6-4 victory against the Lady Rebel pair of Kyley Campbell and Sarah Douglas, 6-4.
The Lady Rebels return to action Friday in Jonesboro against conference rival Ridgefield Christian.
