Jonesboro

John Albert Honnoll, Sr., 84, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at VA Medical Center in Memphis.

He was born in Macey to the late William Wiseman and Rachel Pitts Honnoll. He was a farmer, former automobile salesman, livestock salesman and co-owner of Nettleton Feed Store. He was a great grandson of the Rev. James Wiseman Honnoll, a Methodist preacher that gave the town Leachville its name. The Honnolls were one of the pioneer families in the Buffalo Island area. He was a member of the Nettleton Baptist Church, a U.S. Marine veteran serving during World War II, former American Legion member, Mason and Life Member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie Honnoll of the home; two sons and their wives, W. Danny and Teressa Honnoll and John A. and Kathy Honnoll, Jr. all of Jonesboro; a daughter, Kathy Ann Honnoll of Jonesboro; a stepson, David McCain of Olive Branch, Miss.; two stepdaughters, Lynne Lucy and Karen Walker, both of Olive Branch; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Silas, Leah Seruya, Bethany Hendrix, John Andrew Honnoll, Heather Burns, Jeffery Lucy, Jonathan Lucy, Michell Lucy, Davis Walker, Brooke Walker, Zachery McCain, Jadyn McCain, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maudean Honnoll; a sister, Helen Kackley; a brother, James Honnoll; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe Honnoll.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. Max Alexander officiating. Burial wasin Nettleton Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were Drew Honnoll, Drew Seruya, Ashton Silas, M. Ray Jones, Doyle Yearta and Ed Dudley. Honorary pallbearers were Silas, Ethan Hendrix, John Orlando Honnoll, David McCain, Rob Walker and Jimmie Lucy.

The family requests lasting memorials be given to the American Cancer Society.
