Trey DePriest, 8, of Monette has qualified for the 2007 US Kids World Golf Championship to be held in Pinehurst, N.C., on Aug. 2-4. This will be Trey's third year to qualify for the World Championship.
Trey is the son of Thomas and Candie DePriest.
Trey, while still a second grader at Buffalo Island Central Elementary, won the 2006-07 United States Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year. In the Boys Future Star Division, which is made up of third and fourth graders, Trey won 10 out of 15 tournaments. He set a single day scoring record in the eight year history of the USJGT by shooting a one under 71 in the boys Future Star Division.
Trey also went to Greenville, Miss., and played in the BFI Future Tour Champs. He played in the 8-9 year old division. On the first day he shot a four under 32 and after the second day he won by 3. From there, Trey went to St. Louis and won the U.S. Kid Missouri World Qualifier.
Three days later he played in the Pepsi Little People World Challenge in Quincy, Ill., and finished ninth out of 76 kids in the 8-9 age division.
The following week he played at the West Memphis Country Club and won the U.S. Kids Arkansas World Qualifier.
The World Championship was held in Pinehurst last year and Trey is looking forward to returning this year. Last year Trey came in 13th out of 87 kids from all over the world. This year he is hoping to improve on last year. His first trip to the World Championship at the age of six was held in Williamsburg, Vir.
Through his golf, Trey has made many friends and had the opportunity to meet young golfers from all over the United States and other countries. Trey said among the places he has been invited to visit include India, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Mexico, and Florida.
He said he appreciates the support he gets from Thunder Bayou in Blytheville and Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, as well as his coach, Danny Riddle, at Sage Meadows.
