Monette

John Daniel Lewis, 81, of Monette, died Monday, June 11, 2007, at his home. Born at Cardwell, Mo., he was the son of the late John Wesley and Blanche Woodard Lewis and was a life-long area resident. Mr. Lewis worked for Brown Shoe Company in Leachville from opening until its closing in the 1980s.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Skaggs Lewis, in April of this year; his son, Johnny Lewis; a brother, Willie Lewis; and a great-grandson, Charlie Cook.

He is survived by four daughters, Shirley Cook of Salem, Barbara Shipman and husband, Jim, of Salem, Betty Jane Hughes of Jonesboro and Sharon Stone and husband, Tommy, of Leachville; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. D.G. Daniels officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Mike Akes, Robert Chambers, Robin Ashley, Bill Craig, Lloyd Carmichael and Glen Rolland.
