Joseph Newton Mondy. 78, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Park Place Manor in Melton, Texas. He was born on May 26, 1928, in Jonesboro, the son of the late Joe and Margie Ann Jones Monday. He was united in marriage to Juanita M. Shivers on July 3, 1951, in Illinois. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 2004.

Mr. Mondy retired from Austin Western Engineering in Aurora, Ill., as an electrical engineer, and an active member of the Bob Gilmore Senior Center and a member of Killeen, Texas Church of Christ.

Survivors include a brother, Charles H. Monday of Leachville, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Lovelady.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge with Donald Layne officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers were Danny Baxley, Robert Nimmo, Edward Jones, Granal Jones, Jack Lovelady and Gerald Layne.
