Riverside picked up a pair of victories Monday and Tuesday before falling to league champion Bay on Thursday as the Lady Rebels closed out their regular season in high school softball action last week.
Riverside started the week with a 6-2 win over Cross County Monday afternoon at Lake City. Morgan Emery banged out two hits, stole a pair of bases and scored a run while Kaitlyn Staggs went the distance to pick up the victory on the mound.
The Lady Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning after the first two batters were retired. Kelsey Turner singled and came home on an RBI double by Katey Campbell. Campbell rode home when Holly Dudley singled for Riverside's second run of the inning and Dudley later scored with the help of a Thunderbird error, giving the Lady Rebels a 3-0 lead.
Cross County scored a run in the third when losing pitcher Robbi Guzman laced a run-scoring double to cut the lead to 3-1.
Riverside came right back with three more runs in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 6-1. Cross County managed a lone run in the fifth inning on Guzman's second RBI double of the game, but the Lady Thunderbirds would get no closer as Staggs closed out the game.
Turner added a stolen base to her single and also scored twice. Campbell and Dudley scored two and one run respectively to go along with their base hits. Brianna Driver went 1-2 and stole a base while Michelle Cobb also picked up a hit and a stolen base.
The Lady Rebels hosted Crowley's Ridge Academy Tuesday afternoon and smoked the Lady Falcons 10-0 behind Kaitlyn Staggs'six inning no-hitter. The right-handed hurler finished with four strikeouts and four walks in picking up the win.
|Riverside banged out 16 hits on their way to the win. Kelsey Turner was 3-3 with three runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI. Kassie Douglas went 3-4 and drove in two runs. Shortstop Kailey Holt went 2-3, scored three runs, and swiped three bases. Senior Jesse Mann was 2-3 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored while Holly Dudley went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Brianna Driver went 2-3 and stole a base. Morgan Emery was 1-3, scored a run, and had a game high three RBIs. Katey Campbell was 1-3, scored a run and stole a base. Michelle Cobb added a stolen base.|
Riverside closed out the regular season Thursday afternoon at home, dropping an 8-3 decision to league champion Bay.
Freshman star Lacy Staten held the Lady Rebels to three hits while striking out 12 to pick up the win. Staten also led Bay at the plate with a pair of hits.
Riverside grabbed an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning. Kelsey Turner had an RBI single to help put the Lady Rebels on top.
Bay bounced back to tie the game with two runs in the fourth and put the game away with a five run fifth inning.
Turner led the Rebels with two hits, a stolen base and an RBI. Kailey Holt finished 1-2 with a run scored, three stolen bases plus an RBI. Morgan Emery scored a run and stole a base while Michelle Cobb scored once. Kaityn Staggs took the loss.
