Manila rolled to a pair of victories in high school softball action last week. The Lady Lions jumped all over Gosnell, cruising to a 17-0 win over the Lady Pirates in a game called after three innings Monday afternoon at Gosnell. Manila scored nine runs in the first inning and added eight more in the third.
Kimberly Wise picked up the win, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking one. The freshman also led the Lady Lions at the plate with a single, a double, and a stolen base while scoring twice. Heather Dozhier had a double for Manila and scored two runs. Katie Donner scored three times while Katie Veach, Brooke Hill, Leigha Woody and Michele Daniel all scored two runs a piece. Jonna Dodd and Colleen Kemp added one run each.
Manila hosted Harrisburg Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 7-1 3A-3 conference win. Manila pounded out seven hits in picking up the win.
Manila will take the week off for spring break and will return to action April 2 when they host Brookland in 3A-3 conference action. The Lady Lions will host East Poinsett County in a double header Tuesday, April 3 before traveling to Corning for another doubleheader April 5 to close out the week.
