Lady Mustangs drop games to Rector, Marked Tree

Rector knocked off Buffalo Island Central 4-1 in the first game of a Tuesday afternoon 2A-3 conference doubleheader, then completed the sweep, winning the nightcap 5-0 over the Lady Mustangs at Rector in senior high softball action.

Elizabeth Loveless pitched the Lady Cougars to wins in both games, going five innings, allowing six hits and one walk in the opener. Senior Jordan Cornelison knocked in two runs to lead the Rector offensive attack. The Lady Cougars scored two runs in the first and tacked on two more runs in the third inning.

Kasey Garrett tripled and scored the Lady Mustang's only run in the third inning. Ashley Tate, Lauryn Smith, Karla Marroquin, Sammi Fowler, and Tiffany Parker also had hits for BIC. Marroquin took the loss, allowing just three hits while striking out seven.

In the nightcap, Loveless went five innings to notch the win, allowing five hits while striking out one. Stephanie Dement and Hillary Calhoun had a pair of hits apiece to lead the Lady Cougars offensively.

Karla Marroquin suffered the loss, giving up four hits and five runs. Lauryn Smith had a pair of hits while Marroquin, Sammi Fowler and Katie Smith each had singles for the Lady Mustangs.

BIC hosted Marked Tree Thursday afternoon and dropped a 6-3 decision to the Lady Indians.

Hannah Ghant struck out 10 Lady Mustangs while giving up five hits to pick up the win for Marked Tree, who improved to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Karla Marroquin struck out seven but gave up 10 walks in absorbing the loss for BIC. Marroquin gave up just three hits for BIC, who drops to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action. Marroquin led the Lady Mustangs offensively with three hits. Ashley Tate had a single and an RBI. Sammi Fowler singled while Lauryn Smith scored all three BIC runs.

The Lady Mustangs will take the week off for spring break and will return to action April 2 when they travel to Rivercrest to face the Lady Colts. BIC will play at home April 5 in a 2A-3 conference match-up with Cross County.
