Manila split a pair of games last week on the diamond, defeating Westside 4-2 Monday afternoon in Jonesboro before dropping a 7-3 decision Tuesday afternoon at Corning.
Jacob Britt went 2-2 and swiped four bases while driving in a run to help push the Lions past the Warriors. Michael Shedd pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory with Chad Nunnally getting the final two outs to pick up the save. Shedd struck out seven while walking just one. The righthander gave up two unearned runs and scattered six hits.
In Tuesday's loss to Corning, the Bobcats got a 10 strikeout performance from Zack Brown to earn the win. Brown went all the way, pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits while walking just two. Corning improves to 4-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in 3A-3 conference play.
Manila (7-3, 3-1) was led at the plate by Luke McLaughlin who banged out three hits while Jace Elkins also had a pair of base knocks.
The Lions will return to the field Monday and Tuesday to play a pair of games against East Poinsett County. Manila will travel to EPC Monday for a 3:30 start and then will host the Warriors Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 in Manila. The Lions will begin play in the Xtra Innings Tournament at Jonesboro March 22-24.
