Fowler's home runs lift Lady Mustangs past Riverside

Buffalo Island Central's Sammi Fowler ripped a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Lady Mustangs to a 4-3 victory, completing a doubleheader sweep of Riverside Friday afternoon at Caraway. The doubleheader loss left the Lady Rebels in search of their first win as they saw their record drop to 0-5 on the year.

The Lady Mustangs (4-2) took the opener 10-5 as Fowler drilled a grand slam home run and had five RBI's to lead a 12 hit BIC attack.

BIC scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but the Lady Rebels rallied, scoring three times in the top of the third to grab a 3-2 lead. Katey Campbell's two run single highlighted the inning. Morgan Emery also rapped a single and scored a run in the inning.

The Lady Mustangs came right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the score, setting up Fowler's fifth inning heroics.

Kelsey Turner, who picked up the loss, finished with a hit and scored a run. Kailey Holt scored the other Rebel run and added a stolen base.

In addition to the game winning home run, Fowler also ripped a single. Kasey Garrett cracked a double and scored a run while winning pitcher Karla Marroquin had a single and a run scored. Tiffany Parker singled and stole two bases while Lauryn Smith and Ashley Tate also had base hits.

In addition to Fowler's grand slam in the opener, Tiffany Parker had three singles and scored two runs while Morgan Edwards had a double, two singles and also scored a pair of runs. Kasey Garrett had an RBI double to go along with a single and a run scored. Shelby Qualls tripled and scored two runs. Ashley Tate had a double and a run scored while winning pitcher Karla Marroquin singled and scored a run.

Kelsey Turner led Riverside at the plate with an RBI triple and a run scored. Holly Dudley also had a triple and scored a run while Katey Campbell and Michelle Cobb scored a run apiece. Kendra Staggs took the loss for Riverside.

BIC also picked up a pair of wins earlier in the week, knocking off Armorel 8-6 and Gosnell 8-4.

The Lady Mustangs used a three run seventh inning to rally past Armorel. Kasey Garrett had a three run triple to lead BIC. Winning pitcher Karla Marroquin also had an RBI triple and scored twice. Ashley Tate and Tiffany Parker both had RBI singles and scored a run apiece. Sammi Folwer singled and scored a run while Lauryn Smith scored two runs. Shelby Qualls added a run scored.

In BIC's victory Thursday at Gosnell, Karla Marroquin struck out 10 Lady Pirates while giving up just three hits to pick up the win. Marroquin also had a double, a triple and scored three runs. Sammi Fowler had two singles and two RBI's while scoring a run. Kasey Garrett singled, doubled and scored twice. Tiffany Parker had a pair of singles, swiped two bases and scored a run while Shelby Qualls added a single and a run scored.
