Riverside opened their 2007 baseball season with a doubleheader sweep over Turrell Thursday afternoon at Caraway. The Rebels took the opener 15-0 and came back with a 19-3 win in the nightcap.
Cameron Casey picked up the win in the first game, going three innings while giving up just one hit. Casey fanned nine Rockets. Garrett Weaver led the Rebels at the plate, going 3-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Blake Hogan had a pair of RBI hits and scored a run. Shawn Matthews had an RBI double and scored three times. Cody Richardson and Cody O'Guinn had a pair of singles apiece while Caleb McCluskey scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Rebels exploded for seven runs in the second inning and added seven more in the third to complete the sweep. Cody O'Guinn picked up the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two runs. The sophomore righthander stuck out four and walked one.
Blake Hogan had two hits and drove in three runs, Josh Driver had a double and three RBI's while Tyler Pittman also had a pair of hits, including a double with three RBI's while scoring two runs. Daniel Prince had a double, triple, and scored three runs. Austin Davis had an RBI single and scored three runs. Nick Bagley crossed the plate three times and stole two bases while Jordan Adcock had an RBI and scored one run.
The Lady Rebels dropped a 13-2 decision to Armorel Friday afternoon at Caraway. Armorel (6-0) was led by Amanda McCauley who picked up the win going five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
Brianna Driver had an RBI single for the Rebels who drop to 0-1 on the year.
The Lady Rebels will return to action Monday afternoon when they travel to Trumann to face the Lady Wildcats. Riverside will face Manila Tuesday afternoon at Lake City before hosting Buffalo Island Central Friday afternoon in a 4:00 doubleheader at Caraway.
