Manila opened their softball season dropping a pair of non-conference games last week. Rivercrest slipped by the Lady Lions 6-2 Monday afternoon while Trumann came away with a 10-6 win on Thursday.
The Lady Colts built a 4-0 lead and held on for the win in Manila's season opener. Manila scored a run in the fifth and one in the sixth. Senior Katie Veach had two singles and an RBI while Leigha Woody had an RBI single. Jonna Dodd singled and scored one run, Kimberly Wise singled, while Katie Donner scored one run while walking twice.
In Thursday's loss at Trumann, freshman Katie Donner went 4-4 and stole four bases to lead the Lady Lion attack. Donner also drove in a run. Heather Dozhier went 3-4, scored once and had an RBI while stealing a base. Leigha Woody was 2-4 with a run scored. Brooke Hill was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Michele Daniel went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kimberly Wise had a single and a run scored while walking twice and stealing a base. Jonna Dodd also had a hit for the Lady Lions.
Manila will return to action Monday when they host Buffalo Island Central in a 4:00 doubleheader at Manila. The Lady Lions will travel to Caraway Tuesday to face Riverside before returning home Thursday to play Armorel.
