Lake City Council accepts recorder's resignation

A special called Lake City Council meeting was held Monday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.

Mayor Billy R. Anderson called the meeting to order. City Recorder Sue Gurley recognized council members present, which included Tommy Eakins, Kenneth Winford, Harold Barker, Debbie Johnson, and Jon Milligan.

Other guests included Steve Chamness, Norval and Norma Spurlock.

Mayor Anderson and the council reviewed and discussed the amended proposed 2007 budget and voted unanimously to adopt it.

Jan. 24 meeting

Lake City aldermen held their fourth council meeting for the month, with a special called session Wednesday, January 24, at 5 p.m.

Mayor Billy R. Anderson presided with councilmen Tommy Eakins, Kenneth Winford, Harold Barker, Debbie Davis, Jon Milligan and Mark Mann attending.

Guests included Norval Spurlock, Norma Spurlock, Jerry Bowman, Jordan Miller, Gary Brewer, Billy Mann, Pat Mann, Lilly Anderson, Steve Chamness, Dennis Hiser, Tommy Mann, Connie Timms, John Jordan, and Cameron Tate.

Ordinance No. 223-07, adopting the 2007 budget, was read and approved. The council declared an emergency, suspended the rules and placed the ordinance on the second and third readings. Ordinance 223-07 passed unanimously.

Aldermen voted to accept City Recorder Sue Gurley's resignation effective Jan. 31, 2007. Recorder Gurley has agreed to work part time after that date to assist with the duties of clerk until a new clerk has been appointed and/or help train the new clerk.

The council went into executive session to review the applications received for the clerk's position. After returning to regular session no decision was made to hire a new city clerk/treasurer. Resumes will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26. The vacancy is expected to be filled during the next special called meeting on Monday, Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m.
