Buffalo Island Central's Senior High Lady Mustangs stampeded their way to a pair of 2A-3 conference victories last week as they ran over Cross County 70-46 Tuesday night at Cherry Valley and then trampled Marked Tree 64-31 Friday night at the Monette Athletic Complex.
Sammi Fowler recorded a double-double in the Mustang's win over Cross County, scoring 24 points while snaring 10 rebounds. Jessica Shepard also hit double figures, pumping in 14 more. Kasey Garrett had eight points, Amber Smithee tallied seven, and Ashley Tate connected for four points while grabbing 11 boards. Lauryn Smith and Corie Flannigan scored four points each, Chelsie Nix and Jordan Miller netted two points apiece while Haley Smith added one.
The Mustangs hit 14-22 from the foul line and nailed four three pointers.
Leslie Lockley and Robbi Guzman led Cross County with 15 points apiece. The two Lady Thunderbirds combined to hit nine three pointers, five by Lockley and four by Guzman, but Cross County connected on just 3-8 from the foul line.
Jessica Shepard poured in 18 points while Sammi Fowler recorded her second double-double of the week, tallying 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, in BIC's 33 point rout of Marked Tree.
BIC (20-5, 12-1 2A-3) led 20-4 after the first quarter and 32-15 at the half.
The Lady Mustangs will return to action Tuesday night as they host Weiner in a non-conference tilt before traveling to Rector to face the Lady Cougars in a battle for first place in the 2A-3 conference Friday night.
In junior high action, the Lady Mustangs split a pair of conference games. BIC romped over Cross County 50-33 Tuesday night before dropping a heartbreaking 31-29 decision Friday night to Marked Tree.
Jenna Pike paced the Lady 'Stangs with 14 points in BIC's win over Cross County. Taylor Owens scored eight points, Shelby Qualls, Whitley Roland, and Jamie Harris tallied six points apiece while Rhonda Garrett netted four points. Ashley Jines, Holly Dempsey and Jayce Sneed added two points apiece for the Mustangs, who hit 10-26 free throws.
BIC led 15-8 after the first period and held a 27-25 halftime advantage. The Lady Mustangs took a 36-29 lead into the fourth quarter.
BIC led Marked Tree through three quarters on Friday night before the Lady Indians put on a fourth quarter rally, outscoring BIC 9-2 to pull out the win.
BIC held an 11-6 first period lead and went into the dressing room at the half leading 15-13. BIC stretched their margin to 27-22 heading into the fourth quarter before the Indians put together their winning rally.
Jamie Harris led BIC with 10 points. Jenna Pike, Taylor Owens, and Ashley Jines scored four points apiece while Whitley Roland had three. Shelby Qualls and Holly Dempsey rounded out the Lady Mustang scoring attack with two points each.
