Riverside kept their 2A-3 conference title hopes alive with a pair of league wins last week, knocking off Crowley's Ridge Academy 69-41 Tuesday night at Paragould before coming back with a 59-45 win over Turrell Friday night at Lake City.
Riverside (21-6, 10-2 2A-3) remains tied for second with Rector, one game behind league leading Buffalo Island Central. The Lady Rebels hold the tiebreaker against the Lady Cougars by virtue of a season sweep.
Riverside started the week with a 28 point victory over CRA behind a balanced scoring attack led by senior Marisa Johnson's 16 points. Brianna Driver scored 13 while Kelsey Turner chipped in 12 more, all coming from beyond the three point arc. Morgan Emery and Kailey Holt scored nine points apiece, Katey Campbell netted four while Holly Dudley and Anne Marie Johnson added three points apiece.
The Lady Rebels, who hit 9-17 from the free throw line and made eight three pointers, jumped to a 16-6 first period advantage and led 32-23 at the half. Riverside carried a 50-34 advantage into the final frame.
The Lady Rebels disposed of Turrell Friday night as 10 players reached the scoring column, led by Brianna Driver and Marisa Johnson who scored 13 and 12 points respectively. Junior Kassie Douglas also came up big for the Lady Rebels, recording a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kelsey Turner had six points, Morgan Emery, Katey Campbell and Anne Marie Johnson tallied four points apiece while Kailey Holt, Holly Dudley and Christy Ward all added two points each.
Riverside finished 6-12 from the free throw line and hit three treys.
The Lady Rockets were led by Jasmine Moore and Jasmine Lowry who finished with 14 points apiece. Turrell hit 5-12 from the foul line and made six three pointers.
Riverside led 19-6 after the first break and stretched their advantage to 35-16 at the half. The Lady Rebels led 48-33 entering the final quarter.
In junior high action, Riverside swept past CRA and Turrell, beating the Lady Falcons 33-25 before taking care of Turrell 38-32.
Courtney Thomas led Riverside past CRA with 10 points while Michelle Cobb pitched in nine more. Kyley Campbell scored six, Magan Wells netted five, Taylor Bonesss tallied two while Brittany Douglas added one. Riverside was 8-17 from the free throw line and hit three treys.
The Lady Rebels held a 5-4 first period lead but watched the Lady Falcons take a 12-11 lead into the dressing room at the half. Riverside battled back in the third quarter to grab a 19-16 lead.
Michelle Cobb ripped the nets for 20 points, including four three pointers, in Riverside's win over Turrell. Courtney Thomas scored nine, Magan Wells scored four, Beth Anne Snyder netted three while Kendra Staggs added two. The Lady Rebels were 0-1 from the foul line and hit six three pointers.
Erica Catt led Turrell with 12 points. The Lady Rockets were 5-8 from the charity stripe and hit one three pointer.
Turrell led 8-7 after the first quarter before the Lady Rebels rallied for a 22-16 halftime advantage. Riverside took a 34-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
Riverside will return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Cross County to take on the Lady Thunderbirds in a 2A-3 conference matchup. The Lady Rebels will return home Thursday night when they host Earle in another conference tilt at Caraway.
