It wasn't as easy as the score indicated, but the Riverside Rebels picked up their 20th win of the season nonetheless as the Rebels held off pesky Rector 73-57 Friday night at the Cougar's homecoming festivities in 2A-3 conference action.
Playing in Rector's new gymnasium for the first time, the Rebels watched the Cougars grab a 17-12 first quarter advantage before Riverside rallied to take a 34-27 lead into the dressing room at the half. Rector closed to within 50-45 entering the final frame before the Rebels outscored the Cougars 23-12 in the final stanza to pull away for the win.
Glen Graham led Riverside, who improved to 20-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play, with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Garrett Weaver scored 18 points while Jordan Adcock added 17 more. Cody Richardson finished with eight points, seven assists and four steals while Casey Hook and Michael Lawrence added four points apiece. The Rebels shot a sizzling 23-29 from the free throw line and drilled six treys on the night.
Jackie Graham led Rector with 23 points while Derek Wyss and Jace Speer added 12 points apiece. Wyss completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Cougars managed to get to the free throw line just seven times, connecting on three while hitting four three pointers.
In junior high action, Rector outlasted Riverside 53-46. The Rebels, playing without starting post player Sam Elam, were led by Dewayne Schraeder who scored 12 points. Daniel McCormick and Jake Love had 10 points apiece while Blake Hogan and Josh Driver added seven points each.
Riverside will hit the hardcourt Tuesday night when they travel to Paragould to face the CRA Falcons. The Rebels will play host to Turrell Friday night in another 2A-3 conference tilt.
