Lady Rebels sweep past Falcons

Riverside rallied from a 14-9 first quarter deficit to post a tough 60-54 2A-3 conference victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy Thursday night at Lake City.
Riverside wiped out the Lady Falcons first period advantage to take a 25-24 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Rebels went to the foul line 10 times in the second quarter and connected on six. Riverside's only field goal came at the 2:24 mark when Katey Campbell drained a three pointer to give the Rebels their biggest lead of the half, 25-21. The Lady Falcons scored the last three points of the quarter to cut the deficit to one.
The Lady Rebels outscored CRA 25-14 in the third quarter behind the inside play of sophomore Brianna Driver, who scored 12 points. Kelsey Turner scored all nine of her points in the quarter, connecting on three treys, including back to back triples to close out the quarter, giving the Lady Rebels a 50-38 lead.
The fourth quarter was a free throw fest as both teams combined to shoot 27 free throws. CRA took advantage of their opportunities, connecting on 11-14 attempts to close to within 53-49 with 2:59 remaining in the game. Caressa Foshee, who led the Lady Falcons with 18 points, hit 6-8 from the charity stripe to help lead the CRA comeback.
Brianna Driver connected on a key one and one opportunity with 2:42 left to push the Rebel lead back to 55-49. Foshee's lay-up at the 2:28 mark brought the Lady Falcons to within four points, 55-51, but that was as close as CRA would get. Riverside connected on five free throws in the last 1:35, including four by Campbell to seal the win.
Riverside (18-5, 7-1) also got double figures from Morgan Emery who scored 12 points and Campbell who added 11. Holly Dudley tallied six points, Marisa Johnson and Kailey Holt scored four points apiece while Kassie Douglas added two. Riverside went 20-32 from the foul line and nailed six treys.
CRA (4-8, 2-5) was led by Foshee and Deidra Fears who added 11 points. The Lady Falcons hit 18-28 free throws and drained two three pointers.
In junior high action, Riverside used a 15-2 fourth quarter rally to pull out a 25-21 victory over CRA.
The Lady Falcons held a 6-4 first quarter lead and increased their margin to 14-9 at the half. CRA took a 19-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Riverside was led by Michelle Cobb who scored 11 points. Courtney Thomas netted four points, Kendra Staggs tallied three, Beth Anne Snyder, Brittany Douglas and Taylor Boness all contributed two points apiece while Kyley Campbell added one. Riverside was 9-25 from the free throw line and hit two three pointers.
CRA was led by Aynsley Brown who scored a game high 16 points. The Lady Falcons hit just 3-13 free throws.
Riverside will return to action Tuesday night when they host Buffalo Island Central in a battle for first place in the 2A-3 conference. Riverside will then travel to Rector Friday night where they will take on the Lady Cougars.
