For most of Friday night's game against Bay, Buffalo Island Central's Lady Mustangs looked as though they were experiencing post NEA syndrome, but the NEA champs put together a fourth quarter rally to pull out a come from behind 67-59 2A-3 conference victory.
The Lady Yellowjackets led 17-16 after the first quarter, and when Mehgon Mink launched a desperation three pointer that found nothing but net just as the buzzer sounded before intermission, Bay took a 33-25 lead into the dressing room.
Bay maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, and held a 48-40 lead entering the final frame. BIC began chipping away at the Jacket lead midway through the fourth quarter, behind the one-two punch of juniors Jessica Shepard and Sammi Fowler, who led BIC with 25 and 23 points respectively.
Kasey Garrett also hit double digits with 11 points for the Lady Mustangs, who improved 17-5 overall and 9-1 in league play. Ashley Tate, who pulled down eight rebounds, finished with three points while Corie Flannigan had two and Katie Olive contributed one point. BIC hit 20-31 from the foul line.
Bay had four players in double figures led by Lacy Staten's 20 points. Mink added 14, Morgan Barnes scored 11 while Natasha Coffey netted 10 for the Lady Jackets, who hit 18-22 from the foul stripe.
