Riverside Lady Rebel basketball roundup

Riverside's Senior Lady Rebels pulled off the trifecta last week with wins over Weiner, Gosnell, and Cross County.

The Lady Rebels began the week Tuesday night at Lake City with a come from behind 48-47 non-conference victory over Weiner to avenge an earlier season loss to the Lady Cardinals. Weiner jumped to a 15-6 first period lead and held a 26-18 halftime advantage. The Lady Rebels rallied in the third quarter to take a 33-32 lead into the final frame.

Brianna Driver led Riverside with 18 points while Morgan Emery pumped in 14 more. Marisa Johnson had nine while Katey Campbell added seven for the Lady Rebels, who hit 4-10 from the foul line and made two three pointers on the night.

Madison Craft led Weiner with 18 points while Maleigh Harris added nine. The Lady Cardinals were 14-22 from the foul line and hit five treys on the evening.

Riverside played host to Gosnell Thursday night at Caraway and rolled to a 69-44 win, as sophomore Morgan Emery nailed five three pointers on her way to a game high 18 points to pace the Lady Rebels. Brianna Driver poured in 15 points while Holly Dudley added 14 more. Marisa Johnson had eight points, Katey Campbell scored four, while Kassie Douglas, Katlin Brewer, Jamie Lawrence, Anne Marie Johnson and Christy Ward added two points apiece. Riverside finished 12-25 from the free throw line and hit seven treys on the night.

Yureka Sing paced Gosnell with 10 points. The Lady Pirates finished 16-22 from the foul line.

Riverside led 13-9 after the first quarter and 37-27 at the half. The Lady Rebels blew the game open in the third quarter and held a 57-36 lead entering the final frame.

Riverside completed their perfect week with a 67-20 2A-3 conference victory over Cross County Friday night at Lake City. Marisa Johnson led the Lady Rebels with 16 points while Brianna Driver added 13.

Riverside (10-4, 4-1) led 43-10 at the half and held a 61-20 lead after three quarters. Samantha Stevenson paced the Lady Thunderbirds with 10 points.

Junior High Action

In junior high action, Riverside fell to Weiner 26-23. The Lady Cardinals held an 8-1 first quarter lead and finished the first half with a 14-3 advantage. The Lady Rebels battled back in the third quarter to close the gap to 19-18 entering the fourth quarter.

Kylee Westerman led Weiner with 13 points. The Lady Cardinals were 2-7 from the foul line.

Taylor Boness paced Riverside with eight points while Michelle Cobb added six. Alyssia Thibodeaux netted five, Kyley Campbell had three while Magan Wells added one. The Lady Rebels finished 4-10 from the foul line and hit one three pointer.

Riverside dropped a 38-27 decision to Gosnell as Natalie Carr and Candace Miller scored 12 and 10 points respectively to lead the Lady Pirates. Gosnell hit 14-18 free throws on the night.

Riverside was led by Magan Wells who scored 10 points. Michelle Cobb had six, Ashley Calvert scored four, Beth Anne Snyder and Kendra Staggs tallied three points apiece while Kyley Campbell added one. Riverside was 1-5 from the foul line and hit two three pointers.

Gosnell held an 8-6 first quarter advantage and led 17-11 at the half. The Lady Pirates enjoyed a 24-17 lead after three quarters.

Riverside picked up their lone win of the week with a 49-31 conference victory against Cross County Friday night.
