Lady Lions roll past Harrisburg, Hughes

Manila's Lady Lions posted a pair of 3A South Conference victories last week as they defeated Harrisburg 59-44 Monday night at Manila before traveling to Hughes Thursday night to pick up a 62-28 win. With the victories, the Lady Lions improve to 7-3 overall while remaining unbeaten in 3A South play with a 3-0 record.

Rebekah White scored 14 points while Michelle Daniel and Katie Veach added 12 points apiece to lead Manila over Harrisburg. Kimberly Wise and Kelce Misner tallied six points apiece while Heather Dohzier tallied three. Roccio Bedolla, Colleen Kemp and Chantell Hanes added two points each.

The two teams were tied 8-8 after the first quarter before Manila pulled out to a 28-20 halftime lead. The Lady Lions led 43-30 heading into the final frame.

Michelle Daniel poured in a game high 22 points while Katie Veach added 12 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Lions rolled over Hughes. Manila jumped to a 21-10 first quarter lead and held the Lady Blue Devils scoreless in the second period to blow the game open and take a 39-10 lead into the dressing room at the half. Manila led 54-20 after three quarters.

Kimberly Wise scored eight points, Rebekah White had six, Kelce Misner netted five, Heather Dohzier scored three, while Roccio Bedolla, Colleen Kemp, and Cantell Hanes scored two points each. Manila finished 13-21 from the foul line and ripped three treys on the night.

Jasmine Troup led Hughes with 17 points. The Lady Blue Devils were 3-10 from the foul line and hit five three pointers on the night.

In junior girls action, Manila defeated Harrisburg 24-21 as Savannah Jones led the way with 11 points. Katie Donner scored five while Jonna Dodd and Maegan Presson netted four.

Harrisburg was their own worst enemy going just 6-22 from the foul line.

The Lady Lions traveled to Hughes Thursday night and suffered their first defeat of the season as the Junior Lady Blue Devils manhandled Manila 57-11.

Sherilla Barnett paced Hughes with a game high 24 points. Hughes led 18-7 after the opening quarter and 26-9 at the half. The Blue Devils removed any doubt in the third quarter, outscoring Manila 16-2 to grab a 42-11 lead heading into the final frame.

Savannah Jones led Manila with four points while Jonna Dodd had three. Katie Donner and Jordan Robertson added two points apiece.

Manila will return to action Monday night when they host the Brookland Lady Bearcats.
