Manila opened their conference season last week and dropped a pair of tough games, losing to Hughes 48-39 Tuesday night at Manila and 58-50 Friday night at Piggott.
Hughes jumped to a 13-3 first quarter lead and led 24-14 at the half before taking a 33-25 advantage into the final frame. Michael Darnell led the Blue Devils with 16 points, including four of his team's eight three pointers, while Ken Smith added 10 more.
Hunter Veach paced the Lions with 10 points. Devin Wright scored nine, Trey McCormick netted seven, Austin Metheney contributed six, Ross Malloy tallied five, while Dustin Hobeck added two. The Lions were 8-12 from the foul line and hit five treys on the night.
Manila (5-4, 0-3) held a 42-28 lead after three quarter against Piggott only to watch the Mohawks roar from behind, outscoring the Lions 30-8 in the fourth period for the come-from-behind win.
Piggott (3-0, 2-0) was led by Logan Ballard's 20 points. T.J. Harris had 12, Rob Rice scored 11 while Trey Sutfin added 10.
Hunter Veach led Manila with 17 points while Trey McCormick chipped in 12.
Shaddass Burns scored a game high 23 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, as Hughes rallied from a 36-27 third quarter deficit to pull out a 52-49 victory in junior high action over Manila.
The Lions led most of the way, grabbing a 13-7 lead after the first quarter before taking a 21-18 lead into the dressing room at intermission. But Burns' hot shooting in the fourth period doomed the Lions in the 3A-South Conference match-up. Jonathan Robinson and Torey Hatton chipped in eight points each for Hughes.
Manila was led by Blake Wheeler who scored 21 points while Cody Webb also hit double digits with 11. Dustin Hill scored six, Trey Malone netted five, Jared Burks tallied four, while Seth Towell added two.
Manila rolled to a 62-24 victory over Piggott in junior high action Friday night.
