Lions Use three point barrage in winning season opener

Manila and Sloan Hendrix battled on even terms in the first half of their Thursday night game in the fifth annual Joe V. Jones Tipoff Classic at Monette before the Lions exploded for a 13-0 run to start the third quarter en route to a 68-35 blowout victory in Manila's season opener.
Leading 26-23 entering the third quarter, the Lions went on a three point barrage, hitting four straight from beyond the arc to take a 39-23 lead midway through the period. Hunter Veach's three pointer with 17 seconds to go capped off a 21-5 third quarter for the Lions, giving them a 47-28 lead entering the final stanza.
Manila continued their three point onslaught in the fourth quarter, hitting four more treys in pulling away to the 33 point victory.
Veach paced the Lions with 16 points while Ross Malloy scored 12 and Devin Wright added 11. The Lions hit 10 three pointers on the night and finished 12-17 from the charity stripe. Trey McCormick scored eight points, Adam Bloom had six, while Austin Metheny, Dustin Hobeck, Gary Tyler, Jace Elkins, and Luke McLaughlin added three points apiece.
Sloan Hendrix was paced by Cory Baldridge who scored 14 points. The Grehounds were 14-22 from the free throw line but hit only one three pointer on the night.
The Greyhounds led 12-9 after the first quarter as they used a 10-0 run to erase a 9-2 deficit. Manila came back to take a 26-23 halftime lead before taking control of the game in the second half.
