Linda "Carol" Benson, 61, of Manila, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at her home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born at Lauderdale County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Scott White and Mary Louise Ervin White, and was a graduate of Ripley High School. Jan. 23, 1966, she married Nelson Benson of Manila where they made their home and raised their family. She was a graduate of Arkansas Northeastern College and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State University. She was an educator in the Manila Public Schools for 26 years and was a member of the Manila First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Nelson Benson, of Manila; a son, Ray Benson, and his wife, Jennifer, of Manila; a daughter, Rachel Gifford, and her husband, Scott, of Manila; four grandchildren, Jenna Rae Benson, Neal Scott Benson, Miles Alexander Gifford, and Meg Chandler Gifford; two brothers, Bob White and Scott White, Jr., both of Ripley; four sisters, Sue Chalk of Ripley, Doris Brown of Franklin, Tenn., Mary Ann Marks of Atlanta, and Joy Cook of New Orleans.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Manila with Rev. Ferrel Duffel officiating. Burial was in Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.

Nephews served as pallbearers.
