James W. Newton, 92, of New Carlisle, Ind., formerly of Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph, Mich., died Oct. 16, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor at New Carlisle, Ind.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Manila Cemetery.

Newton was born Aug. 1, 1914, to Lon and Serena Newton, and he and his wife, Mildred Pauline, lived in Arkansas, prior to moving to Saint Joseph, Mich. After the death of his wife, Newton moved to Indiana where he lived until his death.

He was also preceded in death by his children, Katherine Newton, Roland James "Jimmy" Newton, Larry Newton, and Beverly Fench; brothers, Cloven Newton, Joe Newton, Walter Newton, Arthur Newton and Travis Newton; son-in-law Wendell Hurley, and five grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Lon Newton of New Carlisle, Ind., Janet Hurley of Lawrence, Mich., Peggy Davis of Benton Harbor, Mich., Donald Newton of Eau Claire, Mich., Linda Ward of Lawrence, Mich., John Newton of Three Rivers, Mich., Brenda Osborn of Saint Joseph, Mich., Paulette Neville of Benton Harbor, Mich., Chaarlene Mathra of Newaygo, Mich., Kenneth Newton of Three Rivers, Mich., Timmy Newton of California; son-in-law Gary D. French of Benton Harbor, Mich.; a brother, Ardale Newton of Benton Harbor and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
