Caraway

Hershel Leon Kelton, 81, died Thursday, Oct.5, 2006, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Salem on Dec. 12, 1924, he spent the majority of his life in the Caraway area. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Buffalo Chapel Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served as song leader for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Kelton; a son, Donnie Kelton, and a grandson, Ted Kelton.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruby Riley Kelton of the home; son Ron Kelton and his wife Cheryl of Jonesboro; daughter-in-law, Kim Kelton of Caraway; two grandchildren, Kimberley Kelton Jaco and her husband Jim of Austin, Texas, and Kris Kelton of Caraway; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Isabella, Victoria and Austin.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Larry Pendegraft officiating. Burial was in Caraway Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Trey Case, Dennis Finch, Bill Hawkins, Don Orr, Jerry Qualls, Terry Ruiz and John Starnes.
