Rebels netters continue winning ways

Riverside continued their winning ways at the nets as the Rebels rolled to three victories last week in high school boys tennis while the Lady Rebels won one match and split another.

Riverside began the week traveling to Walnut Ridge for a 6-2 victory. The Rebels won four of the five singles matches before coming back to take two out of three matches in doubles play. Walnut Ridge picked up their only win on the singles side at the number one position when Jack Kent defeated Blake Barnes, 6-2. Riverside blitzed the Bobcats 6-0 at the number two, three, and four singles positions. Jordan Adcock beat Tom Jackson, Cody Richardson downed Chris Pinkston, and Casey Hook shut out Wesley Davis. Nick Bagley took care of Curtis Jackson 6-3 in number five singles.

The Rebels defeated Walnut Ridge 6-1 in number one and two doubles play, with Adcock and Glen Graham downing Kent and Matt Moore at number one doubles, while Hook and Garrett Weaver knocked off the Bobcat duo of Jackson and Davis at number two. Walnut Ridge picked up their only doubles win at the number three position as Pinkston and Curtis Jackson upended the Rebel tandem of Shawn Mathews and Cliff Kramer, 6-3.

The Rebels returned home Tuesday and shut out Ridgefield Christian 6-0 in boys action while the Lady Rebels picked up a 5-2 victory over the Lady Eagles.

On the singles side, Blake Barnes defeated Nathaniel Ricca 6-0 at the number one position while Cody Richardson also pitched a 6-0 shutout over Adam Morgan at the number two spot. Cliff Kramer completed the singles sweep with a 6-2 win over Blake Emerson.

In doubles play, Jordan Adcock and Glen Graham beat Emerson and Nick Pehilis, 6-1. Casey Hook and Garrett Weaver thrashed Adam Thrasher and Jared Williams 6-1, while Shawn Matthews and Nick Bagley defeated the Ridgefield team of Stephen Smith and Reese Thrasher, 6-1.

In girls play, Ridgefield took two out of three matches in singles action before the Rebels rallied with a 4-0 sweep on the doubles side to pull out a 5-2 win.

Katie Gillespie of Ridgefield defeated Katey Campbell 6-3 in number one singles. Morgan Emery evened things up with a 6-3 win at number two singles over Elizabeth Young while Kailey Holt dropped a 6-3 decision to Ridgefield's Lindsey Morgan.

In doubles play, Campbell and Emery defeated Morgan and Rachel Ricca 6-3 at the number one position. Holt and Holly Dudley edged Karysta Passmore and Hope Childers 6-4 at the number two spot. Dudley then teamed with Christy Ward for a 6-3 win over Hannah Hogue and Anna Hoggard at number three doubles before Campbell came back with Holt for a 6-3 win over Bonnie Argo and Rachel Ricca.

The Rebels completed their week with a 4-2 win over Crowley's Ridge Academy Thursday at Lake City. The two schools split the girls match, 1-1.

In boy's play, Aaron Hudson, one of the state's top singles players, shut out Riverside's Cliff Kramer, 6-0. The Rebels bounced back when Cody Richardson beat Jeremy Smith 6-0 and Nick Bagley downed Tyler Killough, 6-3.

In doubles action, Jeremy Cohen and Jonathan Huggins narrowly defeated Garrett Weaver and Casey Hook, 6-4. Rebels Jordan Adcock and Glen Graham downed Kade Dickerson and Jake Wallis, 6-1 while Blake Barnes and Shawn Matthews beat the team of Steven Ramsey and Kyle Rowe, 6-3.

In girls play, Riverside's Katey Campbell and Morgan Emery won their match over Lady Falcons Melissa Sellers and Hannah Stidman, 6-3. Sellers and Laura Hill beat the Lady Rebel duo of Holly Dudley and Christy Ward, 6-2.

Riverside's boys improved to 5-1 on the year while the Lady Rebels now stand at 4-1-1.

Riverside will return to action Tuesday afternoon when they host Weiner in a 4 p.m. match at Lake City, followed by a home match with Trumann at 4:00 on Thursday.
