Area high school golfers advance to Regionals

Manila, Buffalo Island Central and Riverside qualified several golfers last week for the upcoming Regionals.
The Lions will send Michael Shedd, Chad Nunnally, Drew Warren, and Trey McCormick to the Regional Tournament. Shedd shot a one over par 73 to lead Manila to a third place finish in the AAA-3 District High School Golf Tournament last Friday at Victory Lake Golf Course in Corning. Nunnally fired an 86, while Warren and McCormick posted an 87 and 93 respectively.
Buffalo Island Central won the girls District Championship Thursday at Thunder Bayou Golf Course in Blytheville. Lady Mustang Brannah Barrett took home medalist honors by shooting a nine hole score of 45. Teammate Katie Olive shot a 54, joining Barrett as a four time state qualifier. Ashley Sims, Katherine Clowers, and Erika Davis, all freshmen, all qualified for the first time. The girls Regional will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, at Coopers Hawk Golf Club in Melbourne.
BIC's boys qualified Brian Whitlow and Cody Smith for upcoming Regionals to be held Sept. 18 and 19 at the Turkey Mountain Golf Club near Salem. Whitlow fired an 18 hole score of 90 while Smith shot a 105.
Riverside qualified three golfers for Regionals. On the boys side, Travis Mays, who shot an 18 hole score of 105 will also head to Salem for next week's Regionals. Lady Rebels Kailey Holt and Kaitlyn Staggs both shot nine hole 62's to advance to this week's Regionals at Melbourne.
