The Manila Lions Club met Wednesday making plans for the annual Big Lake Chili Cook-off scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23.
The fund-raising event give residents of the community and the surrounding area an opportunity to enjoy a day of entertainment, a variety of homemade chili, arts and craft booths, bake sales, and other booths.
Entry fee for the cooking teams is $20 and booth fees will be $25.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place chili along with showmanship trophies and a people's choice trophy. Two divisions in junior and senior will be awarded.
First place will receive a $150 cash award.

In other business, members discussed having a night meeting once a month for members who could not meet during the day. Lion Don E. Wagner said he would cook fish for the first evening meeting. They discussed ways to increase membership.
President Crowell said the Lions need to be part of community activities.
"We need to start thinking about what we can do to increase our membership," Crowell said.
A request for assistance for eyeglasses was submitted to the sight committee.
The Lions Club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Manila Depot.
