John Levi Ellis of Mountain Home, formerly of Manila, died June 18, 2006. Born at Hornersville, Mo., he was the son of the late Thomas Gilbert and Elizabeth Gertrude Pender Ellis, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He lived in St. Louis, Mo., for 30 years where he worked for General Motors and retired to Mountain Home in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Bernece Crouse Ellis, of the home; three daughters, Janetta Shreve and Sherri Ellis, both of St. Louis, and Phyllis Gibbs of Carlinville, Ill.; a brother, Herbert Ellis, of Ceres, Calif.; two sisters, Imogene Ikenberry of Modesto, Calf., and Mattie Douglas of Manila; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service in Manila.
