Manila and Gosnell battled on even terms into extra innings before the Pirates finally came away with a hard fought 4-3 victory Wednesday afternoon at Harrisburg in the semi-finals of the 3AAA South District Tournament.
Phillip Keiter's sacrifice fly drove in Ryan Humphrey with the winning run to push the Pirates into the finals against Rivercrest. Keiter finished the day 1-3 with a double and two RBIs while Brandon Ingram went the distance on the mound to pick up the win. Ingram struck out 10 Lions while scattering eight hits.
Chad Nunnaly suffered the loss for Manila, allowing just three earned runs on only six hits in 7 1/3 innings. Nunnaly finished with five strikeouts and five walks.
P.J. Brumley and Michael Shedd led the way at the plate for Manila. Brumley was 1-4, including a two run homer and three RBIs, while Shedd went 3-4 with a double. B.J. Stone also doubled for Manila while Cody Wells and Frankie Cowgill each had singles.
Manila reached the semi-finals by knocking off host Harrisburg 5-1 in Tuesday afternoon's quarter-finals. Cody Wells pitched seven complete innings to pick up the win. Wells allowed only four hits and one unearned run while striking out 10 and issuing just one walk. Wells also helped himself at the plate, going 2-4 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Ross Malloy went 2-3 while Chase Shelton blasted a home run to aid the Lions offensively.
Manila (15-12) will enter Regional Tournament play against Heber Springs Monday afternoon at Pocahontas.
