Buffalo Island Central split a pair of 3AA North Conference games last week in high school baseball action. The Mustangs ran all over Piggott Wednesday afternoon with an 11-1 rout before dropping a 10-4 decision to Marmaduke Thursday afternoon at Monette.
Brooks Taylor picked up the win against the Mohawks by pitching four shut-out innings, striking out six while giving up just one hit. Taylor helped himself at the plate by banging out a couple of hits, driving in three runs. The senior right-hander also scored a pair of runs on the day.
Garrett Qualls pitched the Mustang fifth, giving up one unearned run.
Derek Rolland and Chris Deeds both homered for the Mustangs while Randy Ibanez contributed a pair of RBIs.
Nathan Haynes remained unbeaten on the year, pitching the Greyhounds past BIC in the battle for first place in the 3AA North. Haynes (5-0) went the distance, scattering five hits, as the Greyhounds improved to 8-2 on the year and 3-1 in league play.
Alex Ryan ripped a bases loaded triple in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach, dropping the Mustangs' record to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in league action.
Derek Rolland suffered the loss, going four innings, striking out seven and issuing seven walks. The senior right hander gave up just one earned run while surrendering five hits.
Jordan Phillips led the Mustangs at the plate with a pair of hits and an RBI. Hunter Smith also had an RBI single. Chris Deeds singled and scored a run while Randy Ibanez added an RBI.
Mike Dobbins blasted a solo homer in the seventh inning and led the Greyhounds offensively, going 3-5.
Buffalo Island Central will travel to Westside Monday afternoon for a non-conference battle. The Mustangs host Bay Tuesday afternoon before journeying to Osceola for a Thursday afternoon contest against the Seminoles.
