Buffalo Island Central took advantage of a Manila error to score eight unearned runs, capping off a nine run second inning as the Mustangs rolled to a 15-9 victory Saturday night in the third annual Xtra Innings Classic at Monette.

Right fielder Hunter Smith led off the Mustang second with a walk and advanced to third when Lion starter Michael Shedd (2-1) uncorked back to back wild pitches. Mustang left fielder Trevor Matheny drove in BIC(s first run with an RBI ground out, scoring Smith from third to cut the Lion lead to 2-1.

Designated hitter Randy Ibanez lined out to center field for the innings second out. Manila looked to be safely out of the inning when Mustang Garrett Qualls lofted a lazy pop up on the infield, but the Lions misplayed the ball for an error, allowing Qualls to reach safely, keeping the inning alive.

BIC first baseman Chris Deeds strolled to the plate and abruptly blasted a two-run homer deep over the left field wall, giving the Mustangs a 3-2 lead. Third baseman Chad Williams kept the inning going when he lined a clean single to left field. Williams stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Shortstop Brooks Taylor ripped a double off third baseman Luke McLaughlin(s glove, scoring Williams to give BIC a 4-2 lead. Mustang pitcher Derek Rolland then drilled an RBI double, pushing the BIC lead to 5-2. Jordan Phillips followed with an RBI single to center, tacking on another run, extending the Mustang lead to 6-2.

Smith came to the plate for the second time in the inning and kept the rally alive with his second walk of the game. Matheny picked up his second RBI of the inning with a single to left field, scoring Phillips from second to put BIC ahead 7-2. Shedd(s third wild pitch of the inning moved Mustang runners to second and third, setting up a two run single off the bat of Ibanez, making the score 9-2 and capping off the Mustang(s nine run outburst.

BIC tacked on three more runs in the third inning, thanks to an RBI double from Taylor and a two run single by Phillips, giving BIC a 12-3 lead.

Chase Shelton(s RBI grounder in the top of the fourth cut the Mustang lead to 12-4, but BIC came right back with three more runs in their half of the inning, highlighted by Taylor(s two run double. Phillips also added an RBI double, giving the Mustangs a 15-4 lead entering the fifth inning.

The Lions put together a two run fifth inning when P. J. Brumley and Chad Nunnally laced RBI singles, their second RBI hits of the night, cutting the BIC lead to 15-6. The Lions added two runs in the sixth and another tally in the seventh to set the final score of 15-9.
